Grooming

Muslim Child Grooming in Rochdale: 24-year old; Osman Ali, has today been charged on six counts of raping a child under the age of thirteen. Mr Ali, of Corbett Street, Rochdale, is currently remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court later today for his hearing.

The charges were announced following an investigation into grooming gangs in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, by the multi-agency Rochdale Sunrise team who have been investigating child exploitation in the area.

This charge is the just latest event that follows a long string of attacks and arrests in relation to Pakistani Muslim men targeting white girls in England. A number of Muslim men have been charged on various counts of rape, trafficking and child sexual exploitation.

Ringleader, Shabir Ahmed, was jailed for 22 years in 2012 for his part in the attacks. Four other members of the grooming gang, including Ahmed, now face deportation to Pakistan.

Update (19/05/2017): It has been revealed that Osman Ali, 24, is in fact a previous offender. He was sentenced to eight and a half years in 2013, when he was one of three men that raped a woman at knifepoint and filmed it on their phones. This means he served around half of his sentence before he was released.
