Muslim Mayor Khan: "Brexit Can Be Stopped"

London’s Muslim Mayor Sadiq Khan has entrenched his divisiveness with his latest comments on Brexit, claiming that the process could be “trumped” if the Labour Party commit to a second referendum.

He said he was optimistic that Britain could remained tied to the European Union, but reluctantly admitted that the only way to achieve this was through the ballot box.

Mr Khan told the Guardian: “For it to have credibility with the British public, there would have to be a Labour manifesto offer, because the public would say, not unreasonably, ‘Hold on a sec, we voted to leave and you’re now sticking two fingers up at us’.

The very fact that a second referendum is an option is “sticking two fingers up at the public”, as the London Mayor so eloquently put it. To suggest we need yet another vote is to insult the intelligence of the 17 million Britons who voted against the Brussels empire.

Many in the Labour Party share Khan’s belief that a small-print manifesto pledge to remain in the EU could be a route to overturning last year’s referendum result, however.

Everyone’s favourite shadow minister Diane Abbott claimed in a recent interview that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to Britain’s relationship with the European Union.

The comments of these two influential Labour Party figures appear to contradict their leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has insisted that his party will commit to leaving the EU and the customs union should they be elected to govern the country.

Mr Corbyn has a long record of Euroscepticism, defying his party’s leadership numerous times over the last 20 years to vote against the European treaties.
